Staff:
Troy Smith
Coach Smith is the head coach of all Sagamore youth
rowing and is one of just a few full time rowing coaches on Long
Island. Starting his rowing career at the University of Nebraska in 1995 on a
dare to run some stadium stairs the sport of rowing has grown to a passion for
him. A versatile rower in college, Smith stroked his lightweight four, he was
an alternate for the men's heavy four, and was 2 seat in the men's heavy 8+. He
also coxed when needed. In 1999 he became Head coach at UNL. In 2000 he was
recruited by Sagamore to build a High School Rowing Program. Around the same
time he picked up the art of sculling. Sculling allowed for his team to acquire
many medals with only a handful of people. By 2006 his scullers won every
sculling event for boys and girls at the Long Island Championships. Coach Smith
is also the chairperson for two regattas hosting over 700 athletes. In his
